  1. Why medicine, why?

    by , 03-04-12 at 09:30 PM (Down the rabbit-hole)
I'm actually quite glad I was never sat down in an interview and asked this question.
Because, in all honesty, I don't really have a well-formed answer. I kind of like sciencey-stuff that isn't too maths-based, I don't openly despise all human beings, and I watched a lot of Scrubs and House during high school.
So I got to the end of year 13, kind of stuck. It's a big thing to put on a 17 year-old's shoulders, the decision of what they should do for, well, ever. And eventually I was ...

  2. Emergency Medicine.

    by , 01-04-12 at 01:11 AM (This Scatter'd Corn)

So, that's it. My first term as an intern is done. I haven't blogged much since I started, and that's partly because I've been too busy, but in truth full time work has not been nearly as difficult an adjustment as I was concerned it would be. I had an accumulated day off last Tuesday, and simply having a day off on a weekday felt so unusual I decided that I must have adjusted already to working full-time.

I had a phone conversation with the intern coming up from Sydney to replace ...

So how would you describe that pain?

A long week. This week I have been "on take" twice and have been in for my earliest yet post take ward round at the horrific time of 7.15am. Ouch. It was actually quite cool in a way being in so early and wandering around MASU before they had even turned the main lights on. Our MASU (medical and surgical assesment unit - basically the first ward you end up on post A+E) has no windows so very hard for patients
