      Please note: the undergraduate B. Dental Science has been replaced by a postgraduate qualification, the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). The DMD commences in 2013.
      • This means that all applicants will require at least a bachelor degree before commencing the DMD programme.
      • Postgraduate pathway is the same for international students and local students
      Academic requirements
      Pre-requisites
      • Required to meet the UWA English Competency Level (See appendix A)
      Recommended subjects
      • Physics to year 12 level
      • Chemistry to first year university level (including completion of year 12 level chemistry)
      • Biology or Human Biology at first year university level
      Intake per year
      ~50 places (25 from 2011 and 25 from 2012 admissions)
      • Includes subquotas from different pathways (School guaranteed, international students, Indigenous, OMP and rural)
      Entry requirements:
      • Completion of a UWA bachelor degree or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.5
      • Suitable GAMSAT score

      • Satisfactory completion of the Manual Dexterity and Spatial Awareness Tests (See appendix E)
      How to apply

      1. Complete or be in final year of undergraduate degree and obtain a GPA
      2. Register for GAMSAT by 5.00pm AEDT on Wednesday 1 February 2012
      3. Sit the GAMSAT on Saturday 24 March 2012.
      4. Apply for DMD through the UWA Faculty Admissions Office by the 10 June 2011 or 1 June 2012.
      5. Submit GAMSAT results by the 10th June 2011.
      6. Receive interview offer
      7. Attend interview if you are offered (24th September - 1 October 2011)
      8. Obtain offer (~Not sure of date)

      GAMSAT

      • GAMSAT scores are valid for two years (so applicants lodging a 2011 application require a 2010 or 2011 GAMSAT score)
      • Applicants can sit the test from their last year of bachelor study
      • There are three sections of the test: Reasoning in Humanities and Social Sciences (Section 1), Written Communication (Section 2), and Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences (Section 3)
      • Section 3 of the test is double weighted and assesses biology and chemistry to first year university level and physics to Australian year 12 level.
      • Applicants require minimum test scores of 50 in each of the three sections, and a minimum overall score of 50.
      Interview offers
      • Applicants will be shortlisted for interview based equally on GAMSAT and GPA
      • Minimum GAMSAT scores will be required for consideration for interview offers.
      Interviews
      • Interviews will be held in Perth within the period 24th September - 1 October 2011
      • Interviews are face to face and are NOT conducted over telephone or through video conferencing facilities

      Final ranking:
      • Final ranking for non-rural applicants is based equally on GAMSAT, GPA and Interview score.
      • Final ranking for rural applicants is based equally on GAMSAT, GPA, Interview and a Rurality Ranking.
      Alternative pathways

      School leavers

      Year 12 applicants can apply in 2011 through TISC. (Appendix B)
      • Need to apply by 30 September
      Successful applicants will receive a conditional place in the DMD.
      • A place in the DMD is conditional upon successful completion of a UWA bachelor degree with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5.
      Quota: 5 Applicants

      Entry Requirements:
      • Minimum ATAR of 99 or equivalent
      • Suitable UMAT score
      • Interview
      • English Language Competency (See appendix A)
      UMAT
      • UWA does not consider percentiles or the Overall UMAT score. Instead the sum of the three section scores is used. All three sections of the test are weighted equally.
      • The Faculty Admissions Office does not set benchmark UMAT thresholds (other than the requirement that applicants receive a section one percentile score of at least 20).
      • Instead, the last person invited for interview in their category ‘sets’ the UMAT threshold. The university does not release past thresholds.
      Interview offers
      • Applicants will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of the UMAT score
      • Does not consider percentiles or the Overall UMAT score.
      • Sum of the three section scores is used. All three sections of the test are weighted equally.
      Interviews
      • WA applicants: held from 28 November - 10 December (meet the minimum UMAT requirement and also appear likely to meet the minimum academic requirement.)
      • Interstate applicants: held in mid-late January (meet the minimum UMAT and Academic requirements.)
      • WA applicants: held in mid-late January (who had met the minimum UMAT requirement and who were predicted to not meet the minimum academic requirement but subsequently did.)

      Entry Requirements:

      • Minimum ATAR of 96 or equivalent
      • Suitable ISAT score
      • Interview
      • English Language Competency (See appendix A)
      • Satisfactory completion of the Manual Dexterity and Spatial Awareness Tests (See Appendix E)
      Entrance Information
      • Applicants should apply through the International Centre by 30 June 2011
      • ISAT must be sat by 30 June 2011
      • ISAT results must be sent to the International Centre by 5 July 2011
      ISAT
      • Must be sat by 30 June 2011
      • ISAT scores are valid for two years
      • Applicants must forward ISAT scores to the Faculty by 5 July
      • Applicants will need to be in at least the 25th percentile of each section of the test to be eligible for consideration.
      • Applicants will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of the ISAT score (with the condition that they also appear likely to meet the minimum academic requirement).
