What marks should I be getting in UMAT practice papers?

Of course the questions change. Hence the 'practice exam'. I think they are a good indication in the sense that you know what styles of questions to expect in the exam and the format of the actual exam. How you perform on the actual exam is a whole another story...

I actually think the Practice Test 2 that you can buy from ACER is one of the closest papers I saw in terms of being similar to the actual UMAT...

Toeing the line there guys, we don't allow any discussion around prep courses on MSO.

Ok so just one question, Are the UMAT coaching programs useful or of any benefit?

well... honestly, I did the UMAT coaching twice.. but it didn't exactly help me. And there are many people on mso who got great umat scores without any coaching.
The only section that it really helps you improve in, is section 3. But you can do mensa puzzles to help you with section 3..

So I guess at the end of the day it really depends on the individual.. some people feel more confident after they have done some preparation, and that makes all the difference.

Well I did a UMAT course and I feel like it really helped/prepared me to score higher than i otherwise would have. Possibly because having regular practice at UMAT like questions either helped me answer questions faster/more accurately, or at least made me more confident on the day. And how you feel on the day, in my opinion, has a significant impact on how you perform.

This is just me though, and what i thought. I guess to some extent everyone is different

You should be able to get the official ACER practice papers once the enrollments for UMAT 2012 open and you register... I'm not entirely sure when that is, but it should be on their website. (I can't remember what it is exactly, but a quick google should help you find it)

In the meantime, I'd suggest doing a lot of reading, and thinking about what it is you're reading. If you're reading scientific articles, think about what it is that you can infer from what is written. And if you're reading novels or other fiction, think about the characters and what they're feeling - how you can emotionally connect with those characters. If you can do these two things well, it'll put you in good stead for sections 1 and 2 in the UMAT test.

I'd imagine they'll come out when registration opens (April? It'll be on the website). As for preparation, even if you're going to bother with it, methinks January might be a little early...

I assume you're talking about the ACER papers. From memory, they don't even update them annually, though I'll stand corrected if someone else can remember. Either way, whether they're updated or not, last year's ones will be fine.

As for what preparation you can do in the meantime? Time to search around this site mate. There's buckets of information on that here.
