Chances at UNSW Optom 2012

What are my chances with 95+ ATAR and UNSW AAA Scholarship (i.e. ATAR + 5 pts = 99.95) but a low UMAT of 52 (56th percentile)?

Hard to say mate. I reckon you may have a shot. They look at 2/3 atar and 1/3 umat.

A friend got in with 99.40 atar and 60ish% umat last year.

I think last year was especially competitive, a lot (more) of applicants who did not get their first preferences settled with optom, hence raising the cut-off.

I don't think the AAA scholarship is given with Optom/Med, not 100% sure

Hmm maybe. I know for sure duke of Ed bonus points are included in optom though.

Oh! I hope it isn't too competitive this year. And AAA scholarship is given in Optometry (thank goodness!), just not Med. By the way, motivate123, I saw your post from last year about your chances in Optom and was just wondering how that went?

For those coming next year and searching for what might get you in to UNSW optometry I got an offer for 2012 with a total ATAR of 98 (95 & 3 Duke of ED bps) and UMAT 161. Based on postings from last year, the requirements have eased a little, I wouldn't have got an offer with these marks in 2011. For those hoping for a 2nd round offer, I have deferred my offer, so maybe another place opens up....? Good luck all!

i got into 2012 too
98.95 atar no bonus points and 65 percentile umat

Requirements have definitely dropped by quite a bit this year.

Did you have any BPs from elite athletes/performers or other schemes e.g. rural, Duke of Ed?
