While nobody is this thread has outwardly dissed NP's, it does feel as though people feel a bit suspicious of seeing an NP instead of a General Practitioner. The OP doesn't realise that NP's are NOT intended to replace doctors, instead the role was created to provide more opportunities for advanced practice nurses to function in increasingly advanced and extended clinical capacities. It is also worthwhile noticing that the majority of NP's likely do not work in general medical practices. The most common speciality appears to be emergency, amongst other clinical specialities within the public hospital system.

I think we've made all this abundantly clear by now. It should be fairly obvious that an NP's area of specialty is quite different to a GP and seeing an NP for what a GP should be doing is dodgy at the least and dangerous at worst. I very much doubt that anyone here is inwardly dissing NPs either but the fact of the matter remains that this is not a solution to what is a longstanding problem. That's the problem that people here have.

Yes, seeing an NP for what a GP should do be is dodgy, of course and the OP hoepfully realises this much. However I do believe that there is the scope for nurse practitioners to work in primary care if they have been a general practice nurse (basic RN) -> more advanced GP nurse -> trainee NP/NP Candidate -> Qualified NP.
That was all that I meant Havox and just as a matter of interest, are you deliberately targeting my posts to challenge me or some shit? It's getting annoying, whenever I get a notification it's from Havox. sigh

If you find it annoying well that's your perogative. I'm dispelling any misconceptions, rumours or just plain incorrect statements here.

    Time gentlemen please.

A nurse-led clinic which opened in Brisbane’s Chermside Shopping Centre last year has replaced the nurse practitioners working there with GPs to “address the elephant in the room” - patients prefer to see GPs.SmartClinics owner Steven Dahl said while there were a number of factors behind his decision to overhaul his business model, he believed it would reveal how many patients had avoided the clinic because they preferred to see a GP.
“It’s the elephant in the room,” he said.

I find it funny how OP just 10 months before he opened this thread said "I'm so not even considering nursing. I would be the laughing stock for many decades within my group of friends if I did become one." in another thread, and in this thread is making nursing seem like the dream job for him.
Also seems to be bouncing around med, dent, optom a bit too much too. Undecided much?

That's not really unusual for a high school leaver.
