So, my 2 weeks of shift work with Qld Ambulance has finished and I am both exhausted and sad that its all over...

After 8 shifts ranging from 10-13hrs in 2 weeks at the 2nd busiest ambulance station in Qld...I have seen a great insight into emergency medicine system.

My first reaction to this placement was the disgusting misuse of the ambulance system (which is now free for all rate payers in qld) as people feel ...

I like pass/fail for several reasons...

First and foremost, the assessment in medicine is atrocious - or at least has been so far - in respect to allowing us to show what we know and don't know. I find a lot of exam questions vague and it's very difficult to know what the examiners are looking for (in terms of written exams). In our OSCAs so far, there is still a sense that it's contrived, it's a set scenario with actors ...

Seems a funny place to start a blog; I'm not sure it's the right place, but it might be.

I tried before, but the internet failed, or I got tired and incoherent or I tried to write about something interesting, but it was too much like starting something half way in, and nowhere near the start.

Probably I should - really - try to write the kind of blog that gets people jobs, the writerly kind of jobs. Which would ...

      Hi All,
Happy New Year - I hope this year has started well for all of you.

Today, I'm pelased to announce one of a number of new sections to be launched on MSO - the Profiles Section.

In this section, we will be profiling/interviewing medical specialists, trainees, allied health professionals and students. We aim to release 2-3 profiles per week and we hope this will prove to be useful for prospective students and junior health professionals.

The first profile is in this ...
