Getting into a training program. Why would it be more difficult to stay once you're in China?

I think it will be universally more difficult for EVERYONE to get onto a training program, though internationals and FFPs mightn't even get to that point, if they are not even guaranteed internships in the first place. It is possible to be thrown off a training program if you don't come up to scratch. The RACP has recently introduced a new syllabus which, whilst also introducing more supervision and formal assessment, actually gives more leverage for a candidate to be found unsatisfactory. A hospital also is under no obligation to keep re-employing a registrar who can't progress through exams (and thereby advance their career). As such, it is possible that the job market will become far more cut-throat, and that unsuccessful exam candidates may be tapped on the shoulder and politely told to find new avenues.

Interns probably do enough unpaid overtime as is, and I seriously hope that working for free or paying for an internship never becomes a reality or is ever seriously considered by the government.
